Statement of Purpose

Kent Fiscal Watch (KFW) is a non-partisan group of Kent residents who have joined together in order to reduce property taxes without diminishing our way of life. We seek a balanced budget that will free future generations of debt. We seek to make the budget process as simple and transparent as possible, so that every voter of Kent will be able to understand and participate in deciding how each dollar of his/her taxes are spent, and the net dollar cost of proposed programs to each household. We seek ways to lower the costs of government programs without ending the services available to us. We urge our elected representatives and appointed department heads to exercise frugality and caution so that we may work as a team to accomplish our goals. We further seek to simplify the process by which property is assessed and how our tax dollars are distributed for the understanding of all. We seek total transparency in the conduct of government, including, but not limited to, the process of rewarding contracts of service.
