Recommendations for the current Town Board
Ø Require each department to prepare and submit an annual inventory of capital assets and establish an asset management and inventory policy
for all assets under its management.
Ø Investigate alternative approaches to high-cost services like the Central Garage to see if there are more efficient ways to handle them.
Ø Review outstanding debt obligations of the Town to see how and where reductions can be effected in both the short and long term.
Ø Increase efforts to encourage prudent economic development of properties in the commercial building zones of the Town, including the Dill’s property currently on the market. All efforts should be made to keep that property on the tax rolls to avoid a negative impact on already exorbitant property taxes.
Ø Hold regular monthly meetings to review departmental spending and revenues and report the findings at Board meetings or another public venue.
Ø Investigate and reverse the unacceptably high costs of contractual services provided to the Town by avoiding emergencies and by adopting a broader bidding policy.
Ø Place high priority on the change from the voucher system to the use of Purchase Orders.
Ø Find ways and means to consolidate services with other nearby towns.
Ø Prepare and post on the town website all minutes of meetings and other pertinent data.
