Our Goals
Ever since a group of residents who were concerned about the level of town taxation and the difficulty in unearthing pertinent public information got together and formed KentFisalWatch, we have attempted to serve the town government in volunteer positions and to recommend changes that we thought would provide increased accountability and aid in the budget planning process. Although we have learned that other municipalities benefit from the abilities of their citizenry, our town government has, so far, rejected all of our offers to help, but has adopted some of our recommendations. Nevertheless, a town of circa 14,000 residents with an annual budget of circa $17MM was a community in fiscal trouble before the current international fiscal crisis was recognized.
In January of this year we wrote our current Town Board to congratulate them and to redefine our goals as follows:
1. Fiscal responsibility in the management of the Town’s assets and the delivery of services to residents.
2. Transparency in all aspects of governmental powers.
3. Responsiveness to the needs, requests and correspondence of all residents.
4. Truth and courtesy in all communications among members of the board and from the board to all outside parties.
Any resident who shares our concerns is invited to comment and/or to join us as we continue to raise these issues and pursue rational goals. Please click here to conatct us if you would like to join. We continue to hope that the Town of Kent can!
